The Mystique of the Lightsaber
August 3, 2008
No Jedi Knight, a guardian of peace and justice, would be complete with his trusty lightsaber, a weapon designed of a civilized era that can kill or wound in uncivilized terms. It's alternative, a barbaric blaster, has little precision and even less subtlety; definitely not advantageous for maintaining their noble Order. Lightsabers symbolize a Jedi's unmatched skill; their confidence, agility, and unity with the Force.
What could be better?
A lightsaber is distinguished by a jewel studded handle that is approximately 3 feet in length. The studs act as controls which activate the energy contained within the lightsaber. The color of the blade is dependent on the jewel used to activate it, and while most lightsabers have only one jewel and are fixed in length, some have multiple jewels that can cause the length to vary with a simple turning of a knob. Once activated, a beam of pure energy forms that serves as a blade (much like a sword) however it's severity is much more forceful and efficient.
In a Jedi Knight's capable hands, the effectiveness of a lightsaber is virtually unmatched. It's power can slice through blast doors as well as any enemy it may encounter. With the Force as a guide, a Jedi can also sense incoming blaster bolts, and use their lightsaber to deflect them back to the foe that fired it.
After the unfortunate events of the Clone Wars and the ultimate demise of the Jedi knights, lightsabers became obsolete. Regretfully, the wisdom of their design also vanished with their Jedi masters (that is until Luke Skywalker, the last remaining Jedi knight, constructed his own lightsaber, thanks to the vast tutelage of his Jedi discipline.)
Although use of a lightsaber is strictly reserved to the knowledgeable and skilled Jedi, their sworn enemies, the Sith, also enlist the lightsaber as their main weapon.
And everyone knows the only thing that could even remotely stand a chance against a lightsaber, is another lightsaber.....
