The Mystique of the Lightsaber
August 3, 2008 by Bill
No Jedi Knight, a guardian of peace and justice, would be complete with his trusty lightsaber, a weapon designed of a civilized era that can kill or wound in uncivilized terms. It's alternative, a barbaric blaster, has little precision and even less subtlety; definitely not advantageous for maintaining their noble Order. Lightsabers symbolize a Jedi's unmatched skill; their confidence, agility, and unity with the Force.
What could be better?
A lightsaber is distinguished by a jewel studded handle that is approximately 3 feet in length. The studs act as controls which activate the energy contained within the lightsaber. The color of the blade is dependent on the jewel used to activate it, and while most lightsabers have only one jewel and are fixed in length, some have multiple jewels that can cause the length to vary with a simple turning of a knob. Once activated, a beam of pure energy forms that serves as a blade (much like a sword) however it's severity is much more forceful and efficient.
In a Jedi Knight's capable hands, the effectiveness of a lightsaber is virtually unmatched. It's power can slice through blast doors as well as any enemy it may encounter. With the Force as a guide, a Jedi can also sense incoming blaster bolts, and use their lightsaber to deflect them back to the foe that fired it.
After the unfortunate events of the Clone Wars and the ultimate demise of the Jedi knights, lightsabers became obsolete. Regretfully, the wisdom of their design also vanished with their Jedi masters (that is until Luke Skywalker, the last remaining Jedi knight, constructed his own lightsaber, thanks to the vast tutelage of his Jedi discipline.)
Although use of a lightsaber is strictly reserved to the knowledgeable and skilled Jedi, their sworn enemies, the Sith, also enlist the lightsaber as their main weapon.
And everyone knows the only thing that could even remotely stand a chance against a lightsaber, is another lightsaber.....

If you have never been to a Comic-Con convention then you are missing out. Whether you are a hardcore fan or not this is a guaranteed good time to be had by all. The recent convention in San Diego was no different than any other, a smorgasbord of comic book heroes come to life.
It is impossible to attend one of these conventions and not run into a plethora of authentic costumes from just about any movie, series, comic book or video game ever created and some of these are simply amazing. Every year is the same but it seems like the costumes get better and better every year and this year had some of the best ever. We of course are most interested in the Star Wars characters despite the fact that Batman and the Joker seemed to dominate this years convention.
You will be pleased to hear that the 501st and Rebel Legion were out in force, no pun intended. They weren't alone though as fans dressed as Yoda, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Jedi and more accompanied them to the stage. No question the best looking dudes in the place though, had to be the Stormtroopers.
Here are some pics:

Clone troopers RULE! Love the authenticity of these costumes. Simply Amazing!

Anybody can be a Jedi Pilot. It takes a certain amount of style to be a Stormtrooper though.

Stormtrooper Helmets
August 2, 2008 by Bill
Fearless and unswervingly loyal to the Emperor, Stormtroopers are the most recognized symbol of Imperial might. Encased in white armor over black body gloves, Stormtroopers make up the bulk of Palpatine's ground-based armies and the space-based Imperial starfleet. Their fearsome looking helmets allow the soldiers to breathe in the harshest of environments, including the vacuum of space, and are equipped with long range communications allowing these elite shock troops to be deployed with speed and efficiency to quell insurrections and maintain order across the many worlds of the Empire.
The distinctive design of the Stormtrooper was originally created by concept artist Ralph McQuarrie in 1975. McQuarrie designed several versions of the look of the Empire's general infantry.
During pre-production of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, several versions of the Stormtrooper helmet were prototyped for George Lucas to review. The various elements that George liked from each version were incorporated into the final, menacing form we know today. As the original helmet was hand sculpted, it was asymmetrical in geometry and had the infamous "sty" beneath the right eye.
Approximately 60 helmets were simply made from vacuum formed polyethylene and painted white for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. A number of these helmets were modified for use in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, and additional helmets were later made for Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.
To ensure that your Master Replicas Stormtrooper helmet retained all of the subtle nuances of the hand-sculpted original, our engineers digitally scanned and cast a surviving original helmet to recreate this iconic piece for your Star Wars replica collection.
